⚡ Quick Answer

CPF08 means faulty connection between terminal board and control board. Most common fix: de-energize, reseat the connector, replace board if needed.

Most likely Loose or partially seated connector between terminal board and control board (the most common cause)

Yaskawa A1000 CPF08 — What It Means

CPF08 on a Yaskawa A1000 drive is a terminal board connection error. The drive has detected a faulty connection between the terminal board (where your field wiring lands) and the internal control board. This is a communication or physical-contact fault inside the drive, not a problem with your motor wiring or external connections.

The fault usually points to a loose, contaminated, or damaged internal connector. Yaskawa’s corrective action is to turn off power, check and reconnect the terminal board connection, and replace the control board or the entire drive if the fault persists after reconnection.

Before You Replace Anything

Technicians sometimes replace the entire drive without first reseating the internal terminal board connector. Always de-energize, open the drive, inspect and reseat the connector, then test before ordering a new control board or drive.

Common Causes

Quick Diagnosis

Answer these to narrow it down fast.

Does the fault appear only during vibration or after transport?
Yes: The connector is likely loose or has intermittent contact. De-energize and reseat the terminal board connection first.
No: Proceed with full connector inspection for contamination or physical damage before suspecting the control board.
Does the fault clear immediately after reseating the connector and reapplying power?
Yes: The connector was loose. Monitor the drive for a few days to confirm the fault does not return.
No: The connector may be damaged, contaminated, or the control board has failed. Inspect pins and contacts, clean if needed, or replace the control board.
Do you see visible bent pins, broken latches, or corrosion on the connector?
Yes: Replace the damaged component (terminal board or control board, whichever side shows damage).
No: If reconnecting and cleaning do not resolve the fault, replace the control board or the entire drive per Yaskawa guidance.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. De-energize the drive completely. Lock out and tag out incoming AC power, wait for the DC bus to discharge (observe the drive status lights and any bleeder-resistor indicator), and verify zero voltage at the drive terminals before opening the enclosure.
  2. Open the drive cover and locate the terminal board connector. The terminal board is typically mounted inside the drive enclosure and connects to the control board via a multi-pin connector or ribbon cable.
  3. Inspect the connector for physical damage. Look for bent pins, broken latches, cracks in the connector housing, discoloration from arcing, or any signs of moisture or contamination on both the terminal board side and the control board side.
  4. Disconnect and reseat the terminal board connector. Gently unplug the connector, inspect the pins and socket for corrosion or debris, clean with electronics contact cleaner if needed, and firmly press the connector back into place until the latch clicks or the connector is fully seated.
  5. Close the drive cover, reapply power, and monitor for CPF08. If the fault does not reappear, the connector was loose. Run the drive under normal load for a test period to confirm.
  6. If CPF08 returns immediately, replace the control board. Follow Yaskawa’s replacement procedure for your frame size, or contact Yaskawa technical support to verify the correct control board part number for your A1000 model.
  7. If replacing the control board does not clear the fault, replace the entire drive. This is Yaskawa’s final corrective action when both reconnecting and control board replacement fail.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Yaskawa A1000 control board (PCB assembly)Amazon | Frame-size and firmware-version specific. Verify exact part number from drive nameplate or Yaskawa support before ordering.
Yaskawa A1000 terminal board assemblyAmazon | If connector housing or wiring path on the terminal board itself is damaged. Less common than control board replacement.
Yaskawa A1000 VFD (complete drive replacement)Amazon | If both terminal board reconnection and control board replacement do not resolve CPF08.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified industrial electrician or VFD technician for CPF08. Opening a VFD exposes you to high-voltage DC bus capacitors that can remain charged and lethal even after AC power is disconnected. Proper lockout, discharge verification, and ESD-safe handling are required. If you are not trained in industrial motor-control repair, do not attempt this work. A technician will safely de-energize the drive, inspect and reseat the connector, test for continuity, and replace the control board or drive as needed. If your facility does not have in-house instrumentation staff, contact a Yaskawa-authorized service center or distributor for parts and support.

Rough cost: A pro service call runs about $300-800.
