Yaskawa A1000 CPF07 — What It Means

CPF07 is a terminal board communications error. The drive has detected a communication failure between the terminal board and the control board, or it has found a problem with the operator connector or control-circuit self-diagnostics. The fault appears when the internal serial link between these boards is interrupted, damaged, or cannot complete a handshake.

In practical terms, the drive cannot verify that commands from the keypad or terminal inputs are reaching the main control logic reliably. This can happen because of a loose connector, a damaged cable, contamination on the pins, or an internal failure on one of the circuit boards. It is a control-layer fault, not a power-stage problem, so the drive will not run until communication is restored.

Before You Replace Anything

Technicians sometimes replace the control board when the real issue is simply a loose terminal-board connector or a damaged operator cable. Always inspect and reseat all control-circuit connectors and cycle power before ordering boards.

Common Causes

Quick Diagnosis

Answer these to narrow it down fast.

Does the fault clear after you power down, reseat all control connectors, and power back up?
Yes: The problem was a loose connection. Monitor the drive for a few cycles to confirm the fault stays cleared. If it returns, suspect vibration or a damaged connector shell.
No: The fault is not a simple loose plug. Move to the next check.
Does the fault appear immediately on power-up, before you press any keys on the operator?
Yes: The control board or terminal board is likely at fault, because the drive cannot complete its internal handshake. Prepare to replace the control board or terminal board.
No: The fault may be triggered by operator input or a specific command. Inspect the operator cable and connector for damage, and try a known-good operator if available.
Can you see any bent pins, cracks, or corrosion on the terminal-board or operator connectors?
Yes: Physical damage is present. Clean corroded pins with contact cleaner and straighten bent pins carefully, or replace the damaged cable or connector assembly.
No: Connections look intact. The fault is likely an internal board failure. Contact Yaskawa service or your distributor for board-level diagnosis and replacement.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Lock out and tag out all power sources to the VFD and wait at least five minutes for the DC bus capacitors to discharge before opening any covers or touching any boards.
  2. Remove the front cover or operator panel to gain access to the control board and terminal board.
  3. Inspect the connector between the terminal board and the control board for proper seating, bent pins, contamination, or damage to the plug housing.
  4. Reseat the connector by pulling it straight out and pressing it firmly back in until you hear or feel a positive click or until it is flush with the header.
  5. Inspect the operator cable and connector where it plugs into the control board. Look for cracks in the cable jacket, bent pins, or corrosion on the contacts.
  6. Reinstall the covers, restore power, and observe whether CPF07 clears and stays cleared during a no-load power-up.
  7. If the fault returns immediately, isolate the problem by disconnecting the operator and terminal board one at a time (with power off) to see if the fault follows a specific board, then replace the defective board or contact Yaskawa service for further diagnosis.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Yaskawa A1000 control boardAmazon | Required when the fault persists after all connectors are reseated and the terminal board is known good. Order by drive model and serial number.
Yaskawa A1000 terminal boardAmazon | Required when the terminal board cannot communicate with the control board after connector inspection and power cycling.
Yaskawa digital operator / keypadAmazon | Required when the operator connector is cracked or the keypad cable is damaged and cannot be repaired in the field.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified VFD technician or Yaskawa-authorized service provider immediately. CPF07 is a control-circuit communication fault that requires systematic diagnosis of internal boards and connectors under lockout/tagout. Technicians need proper ESD protection, connector extraction tools, and access to Yaskawa diagnostic software or board-level test points to isolate whether the fault is in the terminal board, control board, or operator interface. Attempting board swaps without ESD precautions or proper connector insertion can cause secondary damage. If your site does not have trained VFD personnel, contact Yaskawa or your drive distributor for field service or RMA support.

Rough cost: A pro service call runs about $200–800, depending on whether reconnection clears it or board replacement is required.
