⚡ Quick Answer

CPF02 is an A/D conversion control-circuit error inside the drive. Most common fix: power-cycle, then replace the control board.

Most likely failed control board or damaged control circuit (the most common cause)

Yaskawa A1000 CPF02 — What It Means

The CPF02 fault on a Yaskawa A1000 variable frequency drive is a control-circuit or A/D conversion self-diagnostic error. This means the drive has detected a failure in its internal control electronics, specifically in the analog-to-digital conversion system or related control-board self-test. Unlike motor overloads or output-stage faults, CPF02 points to a problem inside the drive’s own circuitry rather than in the motor or field wiring.

In practice, the drive’s internal A-D conversion or control-board monitoring has failed a self-check. The fault is almost always hardware-related and usually requires control-board or drive-level service. Power-cycling may clear a transient error, but if the fault returns the control board or complete drive typically needs replacement.

Before You Replace Anything

Technicians sometimes replace the operator keypad or field wiring first. Check and reseat the operator/keypad connector and all internal control-board connections before replacing the control board itself, since a loose connector can mimic board failure.

Common Causes

Quick Diagnosis

Answer these to narrow it down fast.

Does the fault clear after a complete power-down (disconnect AC input for 30 seconds) and restart?
Yes: The fault may have been transient. Monitor the drive closely during operation. If CPF02 returns, proceed to connector and board inspection.
No: The control circuit has a persistent hardware fault. Continue to the next diagnostic step.
Are you able to access the drive interior and inspect internal connectors?
Yes: Disconnect power, open the drive, and inspect the operator/keypad connector and all control-board to terminal-board ribbon or header connections for damage or poor seating. Reseat all connectors firmly.
No: Call a qualified service technician or drive specialist to open and inspect the drive. CPF02 requires internal inspection and control-board work.
After reseating all connectors, does the fault still appear on power-up?
Yes: The control board has failed and must be replaced. If a replacement control board does not resolve the fault, replace the complete drive.
No: A loose connector was the cause. Secure all connections and monitor for recurrence.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Disconnect AC power to the drive and wait at least 30 seconds for all internal DC bus capacitors to discharge before proceeding.
  2. Remove power completely and restart the drive to see if the fault clears, since transient control-circuit errors can sometimes reset after a cold boot.
  3. Open the drive enclosure (after confirming all stored energy is discharged) and visually inspect the operator/keypad connector, control-board header connectors, and any ribbon cables between the control board and terminal board for physical damage, corrosion, or incomplete seating.
  4. Reseat all internal control connectors firmly, including the operator/keypad connector and any plug-in headers on the control board, then reassemble and power up the drive.
  5. If the fault persists after reseating, replace the control board with a Yaskawa-approved or factory-refurbished control board for your specific A1000 model.
  6. If a new control board does not resolve CPF02, replace the complete drive, as the fault may involve multiple internal circuits or the power section.
  7. Document the fault code and all steps taken for warranty claims or future reference, and consult Yaskawa technical support if the drive is under warranty or service contract.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Yaskawa A1000 control board (model-specific)Amazon | Must match your exact A1000 model number and firmware revision. Order from Yaskawa or an authorized distributor.
Yaskawa A1000 operator/keypad assemblyAmazon | Replace only if the keypad connector is physically damaged or if reseating does not restore contact.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified VFD technician or industrial electrician if you are not trained to work on high-voltage industrial equipment, if you cannot safely verify that all stored energy is discharged, or if you do not have the tools and documentation to open and service the drive. CPF02 requires internal inspection, connector work, and often control-board replacement. A technician with Yaskawa training can also access factory diagnostic modes, verify DC bus voltage levels, and confirm that a replacement control board is properly configured and tested before returning the drive to service. If the drive is under warranty or service contract, contact Yaskawa or your distributor before opening the enclosure.

Rough cost: A pro service call runs about $400–1,200 for control-board replacement or complete drive, depending on model and labor.
