Siemens Micromaster F0080 — What It Means

F0080 on a Siemens Micromaster 420 or 440 drive means the inverter has lost the analog setpoint signal at its configured input. The drive expects a valid control signal (typically 0–10 V DC or a current loop) from an external source like a potentiometer, PLC, or controller, and when that signal disappears or falls out of range the inverter trips on STOP II to protect itself. This fault does not mean the drive hardware is damaged, it means the drive cannot see the command it needs to run.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Note the fault code in the drive display or fault memory, then leave the fault active until you finish your checks so you can verify the fix.
  2. Inspect the analog input wiring from the field device to the Micromaster terminals for loose screws, broken strands, damaged insulation, and correct terminations at both ends.
  3. Verify the signal source is powered and producing the expected output by measuring at the source end with a multimeter set for DC voltage (or current if using a loop) and comparing to the control device’s specification.
  4. Check the drive parameters to confirm the setpoint source (analog input 1 or 2) and input type (voltage or current) match the installed field device and wiring scheme.
  5. Measure the signal at the drive terminals with your meter to prove whether the voltage or current is reaching the inverter input or if the loss is upstream in the wiring or source.
  6. Repair the failed element by tightening terminals, replacing damaged cable, repairing or replacing the source device, or correcting the drive configuration to match the actual input type.
  7. Reset the fault by cycling power to the drive, pressing the reset button on the basic operator panel, or pulsing the configured digital input assigned to fault reset.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Potentiometer or analog setpoint sourceAmazon | Replace if the field device (pot, PLC output, or controller) cannot produce the required 0–10 V or current signal when tested externally.
Shielded analog signal cableAmazon | Use to replace damaged runs between the field device and the Micromaster analog input terminals.
Micromaster analog input board or complete driveAmazon | Required if the analog input circuit on the inverter itself is defective after all external wiring and sources test good.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified technician if you have confirmed the analog signal is correct at the drive terminals (verified with a meter) but the F0080 fault still appears, or if you are not comfortable working with low-voltage DC wiring and parameter configuration in industrial drives. Also call for help if you do not have the wiring diagrams and parameter manual for your specific Micromaster model, or if the fault persists after you have repaired the wiring and verified the source. A professional can load the correct parameter set, test the drive input circuitry with calibrated equipment, and replace the I/O board or complete inverter if the analog input hardware has failed.
