Pitco Commercial Fryer Error Codes ΓÇö What They Mean
Pitco (a Welbilt brand) manufactures commercial deep fryers widely used in QSR chains, casual dining, and institutional kitchens. The SG Series, SSH Series, and SEM Series controllers display fault codes when problems occur.
| Code | Meaning | Urgency |
|---|---|---|
| E01 | High temperature limit exceeded | Critical ΓÇö shut down |
| E02 | Temperature sensor fault | High |
| E03 | Ignition failure (gas models) | High |
| E04 | High limit thermostat tripped | Critical |
| E05 | Temperature not reached within time | Medium |
| E06 | Control board fault | High |
Most Common Pitco Fault Fixes {#fix}
E01 / E04 ΓÇö High Temperature / High Limit
Critical faults. Oil temperature exceeded the safety threshold. Do not restart until root cause is found. Check: thermostat calibration, gas valve not stuck open, heat exchanger scaling. E04 requires manual reset of the high-limit thermostat after the unit cools.
E02 ΓÇö Temperature Sensor Fault
The oil temperature probe (typically a thermocouple or RTD) has failed. Test sensor output against a reference thermometer. Replace with Pitco OEM sensor.
E03 ΓÇö Ignition Failure
Gas ignition didn’t establish flame within trial period. Check gas supply pressure (typically 3.5-5” WC natural gas), igniter condition, gas valve operation, and flame sensor.
E05 ΓÇö Temperature Not Reached
Oil isn’t reaching setpoint within the allowed time. Check burner operation, gas pressure, heat exchanger cleanliness. Scaled heat exchanger reduces heating dramatically.

When to Call a Pro
E01/E04 high temperature faults require root cause investigation before returning to service. Gas valve and burner work requires a certified commercial kitchen equipment technician.
