Maytag Washer LF Error Code - Causes & Fix

⚡ Quick Answer

LF means long fill, the washer is filling too slowly or not at all. The usual fix is clearing the inlet screens or replacing the water inlet valve.

Maytag Washer LF Error Code — What It Means

LF stands for long fill. The washer started filling but did not reach the target water level in time, so it stops the cycle. It is the same condition as the F8E1 code on many models.

The cause sits at the supply, the inlet screens, or the water inlet valve. Low home water pressure can trigger it too.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Check the supply. Open both hot and cold faucets fully and confirm both hoses are connected.
  2. Test the pressure. Run a nearby tap to confirm the home has normal water pressure.
  3. Inspect the hoses. Shut the faucets, pull the hoses, and look for kinks or blockage.
  4. Clean the inlet screens. Brush scale and debris off the screens on the back of the inlet valve without prying them out.
  5. Flush each hose. Run water through the hoses at a sink and replace any that stay restricted.
  6. Check the drain hose depth. Confirm it does not sit more than about 4.5 inches into the standpipe, which can siphon.
  7. Replace the inlet valve. If supply, pressure, hoses, and screens are all good, install a new water inlet valve matched to your model.

When to Call a Pro

If the supply, hoses, and screens check out and a new inlet valve does not clear LF, the pressure sensor or main control board may be at fault. Those meter tests are a good time to bring in an appliance technician.
