Fujitsu 00:A1 Error Code - What It Means
Fujitsu controls can show faults in more than one format. A wired controller may show a pair like 00:A1, while another control displays only A1 or requires entering diagnostic mode to read stored codes. In most cases, the useful part is the A1 fault.
The tricky part is that Fujitsu fault definitions vary by product family and controller. On many Fujitsu air-conditioning references, A1 points to an indoor unit PCB or power-module fault. In field troubleshooting, an A1 complaint can also overlap with outdoor-unit protection symptoms: the display clears after a reset, but the system no longer heats because the outdoor unit is not starting or the compressor is being protected.
Use the code as a starting point, not a verdict. Confirm the exact model number on the indoor and outdoor units before ordering a board.
If the Code Cleared but the Heat Still Does Not Work
This is a common pattern: the controller blinked 00:A1, a breaker reset cleared the display, and now the indoor unit runs but the system does not heat.
That usually means one of three things:
- The original fault is still stored in memory even though the display cleared.
- The indoor unit is powered, but the outdoor unit is not starting.
- The unit is in a protection delay or lockout after seeing an abnormal sensor, board, or compressor condition.
Fujitsu mini splits have a compressor restart delay after power interruptions. Wait at least 3 to 5 minutes after a reset before deciding the compressor is not starting.
First Checks
1. Confirm Heat Mode and Setpoint
Set the controller to HEAT, not AUTO, DRY, FAN, or COOL. Raise the setpoint at least 5 degrees above room temperature. If the indoor fan runs but discharge air stays room temperature after several minutes, move to the outdoor unit checks.
2. Check Outdoor Unit Power
Make sure the outdoor disconnect is on and the breaker is not tripped. A mini split can have indoor power while the outdoor unit is dead, depending on how the system was wired. If the outdoor fan and compressor never attempt to start, do not assume the indoor board is the only problem.
3. Look for Communication Wiring Issues
Fujitsu systems rely on communication between indoor and outdoor boards. Loose S-terminal wiring, wrong polarity, damaged cable, or corrosion at the terminal block can create faults that look like board failure.
With power off, inspect the indoor and outdoor terminal screws. Look for loose conductors, burned insulation, water entry, or mismatched wire colors from one end to the other.
4. Pull Stored Diagnostic History
On many Fujitsu wired controllers, diagnostic mode shows stored fault history even after the active display clears. If the control shows E:EE or another prompt, follow the controller-specific button sequence in the service manual to retrieve the actual code.
Take a photo before clearing anything. The stored history is often the fastest way for a technician to avoid replacing the wrong board.
Possible Causes
Indoor PCB or Power Module Fault
If A1 maps to indoor PCB on your model, the board may not be reading sensors correctly, may not be sending a clean communication signal, or may have a failed relay or power supply section.
Before replacing it, confirm:
- Correct incoming voltage
- No blown PCB fuse
- Tight terminal wiring
- No water damage or insect contamination
- Correct thermistor resistance readings
Outdoor Unit Not Starting
If the indoor unit appears normal but no heat is produced, check whether the outdoor unit starts. A silent outdoor unit can point to a tripped disconnect, failed outdoor PCB, communication fault, blown fuse, or compressor protection lockout.
Compressor Discharge Temperature Protection
Some Fujitsu troubleshooting paths associate A1-style complaints with high compressor discharge temperature. That can happen when the system is low on refrigerant, airflow is blocked, the outdoor coil is dirty, or the expansion valve is not feeding correctly. This requires technician-level pressure and temperature checks.
Sensor or Thermistor Failure
A failed room, coil, discharge, or outdoor thermistor can make the board think the system is in an unsafe condition. Fujitsu thermistors are usually tested by unplugging the sensor and measuring resistance at a known temperature, then comparing it to the service chart for the exact model.
Repair or Replace?
Use age and repair category to make the decision.

If the system is 9 to 10 years old, get a real repair quote before deciding. A board replacement can make sense if the refrigerant circuit is healthy. A compressor, inverter, and refrigerant repair on an older mini split often pushes close enough to replacement cost that a new system is the better long-term choice.
What Not to Do
- Do not keep breaker-resetting the unit every few minutes.
- Do not replace the indoor PCB without confirming the model-specific A1 definition.
- Do not ignore the outdoor unit because the indoor controller is the part showing the code.
- Do not add refrigerant without leak diagnosis and proper charging.
- Do not bypass sensors to force the unit to run.
When to Call a Technician
Call a Fujitsu-qualified HVAC technician if A1 returns after one reset, the outdoor unit does not start, the unit runs but does not heat, the indoor board shows burn marks, or the system logs repeated communication faults.
The service visit should include model lookup, stored fault-history retrieval, terminal-voltage checks, communication wiring inspection, thermistor resistance checks, and outdoor-unit operation checks.
