Frigidaire Refrigerator H1 Error Code - Causes & Fix

2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

H1 (HI) means the interior is too warm for over an hour. Start with the door gasket and condenser coils, then check the thermistor.

Difficulty Intermediate (DIY)
Est. time 15-60 min
Tools Multimeter , nut driver, screwdrivers

Frigidaire Refrigerator H1 Error Code — What It Means

H1, often shown as HI, is a high temperature alarm. The refrigerator has read a too warm interior for more than an hour and is flagging it.

Right after delivery or a power loss this can be normal and clears on its own. If it stays, look at the door seal, dirty condenser coils, a faulty thermistor, or a defrost problem letting frost block airflow.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Confirm both doors are fully closed and nothing is blocking them.
  2. Give the unit a few hours to recover if it was just delivered or lost power.
  3. Test the door gasket by closing it on a slip of paper and trying to pull it out.
  4. Pull the unit out and vacuum the condenser coils clean.
  5. Check the rear freezer panel for heavy frost that signals a defrost fault.
  6. Test the thermistor resistance and replace it if the reading is off spec.
  7. Replace the door gasket if it no longer holds a tight seal.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Refrigerator door gasketAmazon | Order by model number since the seal size varies by Frigidaire unit.
Frigidaire temperature sensorAmazon | Thermistor for the section reading warm. Match to your model.
Condenser coil cleaning brushAmazon | A coil brush helps clear dust that traps heat at the coils.

When to Call a Pro

If the doors seal, the coils are clean, and the thermistor tests good but H1 stays, the problem may be the sealed cooling system or the control board. Those need a technician with gauges and board tools.
