Follett Ice Machine Error Code E2 — What It Means
Follett error code E2 indicates a water inlet fault. The machine commanded a fill, but the reservoir or trough did not reach the expected water level within the allowed time. Follett nugget and flake machines depend on steady incoming water flow to feed the evaporator and auger assembly. If the water system starves, the machine can overheat the evaporator, run the auger dry, or shut down on safeties. In day-to-day service, E2 usually comes from a restricted inlet valve, low supply pressure, or a failed water-level input.
Common Causes
- Restricted water inlet valve — Scale, debris, or a clogged inlet screen slows fill enough to trigger the timeout.
- Low water pressure — A partially closed shutoff, clogged pre-filter, or weak building supply keeps the machine from reaching level.
- Faulty water level sensor or float — The reservoir fills, but the board never gets the full-level confirmation.
- Kinked or frozen water line — Physical restriction upstream of the valve cuts flow and mimics a bad valve.
Step-by-Step Fix
- Verify incoming water pressure — Confirm the supply valve is open and the line pressure matches the Follett installation spec. Low pressure creates repeat E2 faults.
- Inspect and clean the inlet valve screen — Shut off the water, remove the inlet connection, and clean sediment from the valve screen and strainer.
- Check the water line path — Follow the tubing from the shutoff to the machine. Straighten kinks and thaw any frozen sections.
- Test the water level input — Inspect the float or probe for free movement and correct signal at the board. Replace it if the reservoir fills but the control never sees satisfied level.
- Reset the system — Restore water and power, start a fill cycle, and verify the machine reaches level without logging E2.
